KIDS IN SPORTS MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Kids In Sports (KIS) is to create community led after school sports programs for children and youth in underserved areas of Los Angeles County.

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF KIS?
The LA84 Foundation conceived the original Sports Clubs concept in 1989, and KIS was established as a non-profit organization with seed money from the Foundation in 1994.

WHAT DOES KIDS IN SPORTS DO?

Kids In Sports currently operates 13 clubs that deliver sports activities in baseball, T-ball, basketball, soccer, softball, swimming and volleyball and serves more than 8,000 youth annually. Boys and girls, ages 5 to 17, participate in year-round sports programs at parks and schools. Regularly scheduled practices and competitions are conducted in the evenings and on weekends during the consecutive sports seasons. In 15 years of dedicated community service, Kids In Sports is proud to have served over 130,000 Los Angeles County youth.

Each Sports Club is a partnership between the members of the community, parks, schools and Kids In Sports. Parents and other interested neighborhood residents are recruited to volunteer their time as coaches and as Sports Club advisory committee members. Organizations such as city and county departments of recreation and parks and area schools provide meeting rooms and sports facilities. KIS manages all aspects of each sports club, supplies the necessary equipment and uniforms, pays for certified officials and provides guidance, technical assistance and training to volunteers.

In 1996, KIS initiated the Girls In Recreation, Leadership and Sports (GIRLS) Program to recruit and attract young girls to the sports clubs. Unique features of this program include low cost registration, all-girl teams, women coaches, and all-girl practices and competitions. GIRLS programming began at one site in the sport of basketball with 90 girls participating in the first season. Since that time, the GIRLS Program has increased to involve more than 2,000 girls participating in basketball, soccer, softball, swimming and volleyball at all sites.

WHERE ARE KIDS IN SPORTS CLUBS?
KIS programming occurs at 13 sites throughout the County of Los Angeles in eight communities. There are clubs in Culver City, El Monte, Hawthrone, Huntington Park, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Montebello and Whittier.

WHERE IS THE KIDS IN SPORTS HEADQUARTERS?
KIS' headquarters are located at the Expo Center, 3980 S. Menlo Avenue, Suite 237, Los Angeles, CA 90037.
