10 YEARS OF KIDS IN SPORTS!

Kids In Sports is an Olympic Games legacy without peer. No Olympic host city has done as much with the resources it generated as Los Angeles – the ’84 Games gave birth to the Amateur Athletic Foundation and the AAF, in turn, created Kids In Sports. Ten years later, Kids In Sports reaches 9,000 children a year in communities where, without KIS, the opportunities for sports, and all that sports can engender, would be severely limited.

Yet that is merely half of the Kids In Sports story, for at each of its 14 sites, KIS programs are managed – and driven to extraordinary success – by the families of KIS kids themselves. KIS families and volunteers are coaches, managers, Advisory Board members, teachers, officials, transportation coordinators and (of course) cheerleaders for every KIS team.

To celebrate this amazing legacy, and to insure its enduring impact on Los Angeles and its young people well into the future, Kids In Sports recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary. The celebration brought together UCLA’s legendary basketball coach John Wooden, a host of Olympic athletes, donors, and talented athletes (super soccer players, dazzling dancers, jubilant jump-ropers) and lots of KIS kids and parents. Together, they celebrated a decade of KIS success at its only mission, building communities one team at a time.
