Based at Nimitz Middle School in Huntington Park, the club is one of KIS' two original school-based clubs and the site of a two-year study funded by the James Irvine Foundation examining the impact of school-based clubs on student's overall academic experience. The study found strong links between participation in the program and improved grades, attendance and attitudes toward school. Some of the most competitive basketball throughout KIS is played at Nimitz, home of the back to back tournament champions in the boys 16-17 division.
